DECISION No. 0207/D/MSP/CAB OF 6 MAY 2006 TO TO LAY DOWN TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR THE WITHDRAWAL OF CERTAIN ANTIMALARIALS FROM THE MARKET



THE MINISTER OF PUBLIC HEALTH,

 
Mindful       of the Constitution;

Mindful       of Law No. 96/03 of 4 January 1996 on the framework law in the field of

health;

Mindful       of Law No. 90/35 of 10 August 1990 on the practice and organization of

the profession of pharmacist;

Mindful       of Decree No. 98/405 of 22 October 1998 laying down detailed rules for the

approval and marketing of pharmaceuticals;

Mindful       of Decree No. 2002/209 of 19 August 2002 organizing the Ministry of Public

Health;

Mindful       of Decree No. 2004/320 of 8 December 2004 organizing the Government;

Mindful       of Decree No. 2004/322 of 8 December 2004 forming the Government, as

amended by Decree No. 2007/267 of 7 September 2007 to reshuffle the Government;

Considering           the new guidelines of the World Health Organization on malaria management protocols;

Considering           the collective expert report on the assessment of the situation of anti-malarial

treatment in Cameroon;

 
HEREBY DECIDES AS FOLLOWS:

  1. 1. This Decision lays down the terms and conditions for the withdrawal of some anti-malarial drugs from the market.
  2. 2. Importation and local manufacturing of the following anti-malarial drugs shall, as from the date of signature of this Decision, be prohibited in the country. These include:

  1. 3. The approval in Cameroon of any other antimalarial drug used as monotherapy through oral route for the treatment of uncomplicated malaria shall also be terminated.
  2. 4. The prescription, possession, distribution and supply to the public of the abovementioned products shall strictly be prohibited throughout the national territory from 1 January 2007.
  3. 5. The Inspector General of Pharmaceutical Services, the Director of Pharmacy and Drug, the Director of Disease Control and the Coordinator of the National Malaria Control Programme shall be charged, each, with the strict application of this Decision.
  4. 7. This Decision shall be recorded and published in English and French wherever need be.
